The FT on AI and Jobs – Aug 24
This month, amongst the range of media commentary opportunities we secured for global technology recruiter, Harvey Nash, we created two in The Financial Times.
Andy Heyes, Managing Director, Harvey Nash UK, Ireland & Central Europe was interviewed by The Financial Times on whether the UK is too reliant on overseas hires for tech and engineering jobs, which led to this FT feature on 12th August. Andy said: “The number of people in STEM education in the UK is too low for the demand we have.”
Andy then added that the tightening of visa rules could backfire in the highly mobile tech sector, where multinationals could easily move work overseas. He said: “If we cut off [access to overseas workers], organisations will find another route to get them. The difference is, that person might not be paying tax in the UK.”
Then, the very next day, Andy was quoted in this FT feature looking at how jobhunters are flooding recruiters with AI-generated CVs. Andy said: “We are seeing increased use of AI but there are tell-tale signs [like] American grammar, and bland applications gave an indication of whether candidates have used AI.”
