British Institute of International and Comparative LawEXPOSING BUSINESS & HUMAN RIGHTS FAILURES

The British Institute of International and Comparative Law (BIICL) is an independent research institute and membership organisation specialising in international and comparative law. It is unique in the UK and one of the foremost bodies of its kind around the world. The Institute is renowned for its applied research, events, training and publications. BIICL’s membership includes many of the world’s leading law firms.

We were brought in by BIICL to launch its Business & Human Rights Due Diligence report with its report partner and global law firm, Norton Rose Fulbright. The report found that almost half of global companies had never undertaken a dedicated human rights due diligence process or a human rights impact assessment.

Sarah Taylor. Development Director, British Institute of International and Comparative Law, said:

“The launch of the BIICL and Norton Rose Fulbright report on Business & Human Rights Due Diligence demonstrated how you can work effectively with a prestigious law firm to generate high profile results in the likes of The Wall Street Journal, The Times, CNBC, and Forbes.”

Campaign highlights:

  • We pre-pitched and pre-wrote seven comment pieces for target business, management and sector publications, including Management Today and PLC Magazine.
  • On the week of launch, media hits included Forbes, CNBC, The Wall Street Journal, The Times Brief, Management Today, People Management, Supply Management, and The Law Society Gazette.
  • The views of BIICL’s director and human rights expert, Professor Robert McCorquodale spearheaded media commentary – featuring in almost all of the press coverage from the launch.
  • The key findings and messages were amplified through social media. The big hitters included CNBC’s twitter feed, with over 2.8 million followers.
  • Traditional, digital, and social media exposure prompted enquiries from a United Nations contact, a key decision maker at Thomson Reuters, and a number of law firms.
